I Think I Just Met My 5-Year-Old Son in a Supermarket
Please, I need advice because I honestly don’t know what to do.
I’m a 35-year-old man, and this happened about five years ago when I was 30.
I was dating a 25-year-old lady at the time. We were both working, and she was quite a wonderful girl. But I want to make it clear that we had only been dating for about three months. We were still getting to know each other, so it wasn’t like we were in a very serious or committed relationship yet.
Then I made a stupid mistake.
One day, my ex-girlfriend came to my house, and somehow, we ended up sleeping together.
I regretted it almost immediately. I knew I had messed up, but I decided not to tell my girlfriend because I didn’t want to ruin what we had, especially since we were still in the early stages of the relationship.
Unfortunately, my ex found a way to tell her.
My girlfriend confronted me, and the whole thing turned really nasty. There was a lot of anger, shouting and hurtful words. Eventually, she broke up with me.
I tried reaching out to her afterwards, but after some time I decided to move on. I told myself that we had only been dating for three months and weren’t that serious yet, so maybe it was better to just let things go.
I never heard from her again.
Fast-forward five years.
I recently got transferred to Kaduna for work, and one day I went to a supermarket. Guess who I saw?
Her.
I was shocked because I hadn’t seen or heard from this woman in five years.
I greeted her, but she wasn’t exactly friendly. She was cold towards me, so I jokingly asked her, “Are you still pissed off at me after all these years?”
She didn’t really respond.
Then suddenly, a little boy came running towards her.
Guys…
That boy looks exactly like me.
I’m not exaggerating.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him. His face, his features… everything. It was like I was looking at a five-year-old version of myself.
And the strange thing is, the boy also seemed very interested in me. He kept looking at me.
I looked at his mother.
She looked scared.
That was the moment something just clicked in my head.
I asked for her number and she reluctantly gave it to me. Later that night, I called her and asked her directly if that boy was mine.
She said no.
I asked again.
She still denied it.
But I’m honestly struggling to believe her.
I started doing the calculations, and the timing actually makes sense. Five years ago, we were together, and we were intimate around that period. Now there’s a five-year-old boy standing in front of me who looks like my complete carbon copy.
I know resemblance alone isn’t proof. I understand that.
But something in me is telling me that this is my son.
My problem now is that she doesn’t want to admit anything or agree that the child could be mine.
How do I get her to agree to a DNA test without making this situation worse?
Can I insist on one, or do I have to accept her denial and walk away? Or can I beg her to tell me the truth like be more persistent ?
And if this really is my son, I can’t even begin to imagine that I have gone five years without knowing I had a child.
I made one stupid mistake five years ago, moved on with my life, and now I’m wondering if that mistake resulted in a child I’ve never known.
What should I do ?
